Bilberry - Good Night Vision

Bilberry has been widely known to herbalists since the 16th century. It contains over 15 different naturally occurring anthocyanosides, which are flavonoids that contain beneficial properties. Bilberry is a shrubbyperennial plant, one to two feet in height, which grows in the mountains and forests of northern Europe, Canada and the United States. Bilberry is a close relative of blueberries; in fact, it is also known as European Blueberry.
Bilberry - The Fly-By-Night Study
Air Force flight personnel were given a supplement of Bilberry Extract and Beta Carotene to measure the effects on night vision while flying.1 It was found that the supplement helped the subjects tested to perform effectively while flying at night. This effect was even more pronounced in those who had lower initial scores in overall night vision.
To measure the effects of Bilberry Extract on the pupil, researchers conducted a study in which subjects received Bilberry or a placebo.2 It was found that 15 of the 20 subjects receiving Bilberry had improvements in eye health by the end of the study, which included an increased response of the pupil to light and faster eye movement.
