Dong quai is a perennial aromatic herb found primarily in the cold, damp, mountain regions of China, Korea and Japan. Related to celery, this high-altitude plant can grow as tall as eight feet. It blooms in umbrella-like clusters of white flowers in June and July. Other names for it include angelica, dang gui and tang kuie.
