Here's a totally unimportant (but interesting!) fact about oregano: if it wasn't for pizza, we probably wouldn't even have oregano in America.
Oregano was barely heard of in the U.S. until soldiers returning home after World War II raved about the pizza they tasted in Italy. As soon as the troops came home, pizza grew rapidly in popularity and so did its main spice, oregano.
Here's another interesting fact about oregano: when we talk about it, we're really speaking of the spice rather than the plant it comes from.
