Shea butter is well-known as a nourishing skin protectant and moisturizer, but because it has a dense consistency, it takes longer to absorb compared to lotions, and can be difficult to apply. Adding a carrier oil breaks down the fats in shea butter to make application easier and prevent re-hardening, but your skin and hair will still benefit from its ultra-hydrating properties.
This whipped shea butter contains two of our favorite essential oils: cleansing lemon and serene lavender.
With a large spoon, scoop shea butter into a large glass bowl and break apart by mashing gently. Add three tablespoons of jojoba oil and mix for 5 minutes with an electric mixer. Add the essential oils, and mix for five more minutes with the mixer until a whipped consistency is achieved.
Massage whipped shea butter onto extra dry areas of the body, like cracked heels, dry elbows, and split ends.
Store in a cool, dark place away from humidity in a glass or plastic container.
