Vitamin C is one of the leading vitamins for immune support, and for good reason.* It is essential for the optimal functioning of white blood cells, and is a potent antioxidant that helps to fight free radicals.* It also helps to regenerate vitamin E to their active state to maintain antioxidant support.* Unlike most other animals, humans cannot synthesize their own vitamin C so it must be obtained from dietary sources. National survey data indicates Americans are not meeting the recommendations for daily fruit and vegetable intake, resulting in a significant prevalence of about 40% of Americans with inadequate dietary intake of vitamin C.1 A study gave subjects either regular Vitamin C or a specialized form of Vitamin C known as Ester-C®.2 Results found that Vitamin C from Ester-C® stayed in the white blood cells for up to 24 hours, which was longer than regular Vitamin C. White blood cells are an important part of the immune system.
